Together Alone – Shikha

I live in a small community in which you usually see most people you know daily at the local café, walking the beach or at the local pub. During isolation I felt I could feel all my friends around me in their now small worlds spinning around in their homes. I felt like I wanted to be a fly on the wall and be a part of my friends’ lives. As a director I felt like I need to define myself again and tell stories about the human condition particularly during this time. In a safe and social distanced fashion, a local DOP Jack Saltmiras and I went in and spent a few hours documenting the spirit of our community with some insights into peoples’ lives.

Shikha

Shika Sahay lives with her partner Louis Joyce and their two little boys under 4. They have built themselves sanctuary living in the bush by the sea and mostly live in isolation anyway with Louie working from home as a graphic artist and Shikha taking the full time role to raise their two boys. This idyllic setting and sense of calm and home is inspiring with this beautiful family.
