Together Alone – Montana

Short film

I live in a small community in which you usually see most people you know daily at the local café, walking the beach or at the local pub. During isolation I felt I could feel all my friends around me in their now small worlds spinning around in their homes. I felt like I wanted to be a fly on the wall and be a part of my friends’ lives. As a director I felt like I need to define myself again and tell stories about the human condition particularly during this time. In a safe and social distanced fashion, a local DOP Jack Saltmiras and I went in and spent a few hours documenting the spirit of our community with some insights into peoples’ lives.

Emma

Emma Saunders is a choreographer and usually works on large scale dance projects for Sydney Festival, Carriageworks etc. She lives with her musician husband Stef and two kids Audrey and Fred in Wombarra. They are a big part of the community always organising flash mobs on the beach, kids dance and music classes, great 80’s dance classes and generally being a large part of the daily life in our town. Keeping this energy inwards and within the walls of their family was beautiful to see. They are still dancing, laughing and creating worlds in the interior.
